Laura Beth Dawson, President / Principal Consultant
Laura Beth has over a decade of specialized credit union experience. She started her career in credit union risk management as an Auditor for Waypoint Advisory Services. From there, she served as a Compliance Specialist for Tinker Federal Credit Union, Risk Manager at Oklahoma’s Credit Union, and most recently, the VP of Risk and Strategy at Las Colinas Federal Credit Union. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance as well as a Master of Science in Finance and Economics from West Texas A&M University.
In addition, she holds the following certifications:
- CFE - Certified Fraud Examiner by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners;
- NCRM - Certified Risk Manager by the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU);
- NCCO - Certified Compliance Officer by NAFCU;
- NCBSO - Certified Bank Secrecy Act Officer by NAFCU.
Laura Beth lives on her family farm in Cleburne, Texas with her husband, Stephen, their daughter, newborn twin boys, 3 dogs, and a coop full of chickens.

Debra Shinberg, Compliance Officer
Debra is a seasoned accounting professional and brings over a decade of experience to the Crimson Oak team. She has dedicated the last three years to serving the non-profit sector, first as the Financial Controller for the Johnson County Children’s Advocacy Center, and then becoming a Senior Associate for Noble Accounting, where she managed the accounting programs for multiple non-profits. Serving in this capacity, she discovered her passion for working with non-profits with a mission of serving God and helping people. Her heart for helping people makes her a perfect fit for our industry, and we are excited to see her step into this new role.
As a Compliance Officer, Debra is enthusiastic about applying her knowledge and skills from the non-profit realm to help credit unions navigate regulatory frameworks and uphold financial integrity. She holds a NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer designation and welcomes the opportunity to serve our credit unions. Feel free to direct your accounting questions to her as well, she has much knowledge to share!
Debra resides in Cleburne, TX, with her husband, son, and two daughters. They also share their home with Buster, a black Lab who previously served as a K-9 Advocate at the Johnson County Children’s Advocacy Center during Debra's tenure as the Financial Controller.

Joanna Desenfants, Compliance Officer
Joannais an accomplished attorney with a diverse background in both criminal and civil law, specializing in legal matters related to local government. A graduate of Texas A&M University School of Law, Joanna has extensive experience in public sector law, having served as an Assistant County Attorney for Johnson County, Texas, and as an Assistant District Attorney for Hood County, Texas. In these positions, she represented the State of Texas in criminal prosecutions and, as an Assistant County Attorney, focused on providing legal counsel and resources to county officials and courts.
Although Joanna will not be offering legal advice in her role as a Compliance Officer, she is eager to bring her legal expertise and passion for the law to support credit unions in meeting their compliance needs. She will be assisting with policy reviews, regulatory monitoring, and answering compliance questions.
Joanna resides in Cleburne, Texas, with her husband, their newborn son, two spirited cats, and a German Shepherd.
